Fun Fact Friday…Books and Birth Years
So I saw this post about the most popular books in your birth year and decided to check it out. Here’s what I discovered…
Firstly..the most popular books were almost always turned into movies… The Color Purple, Eloise, Sophie’s Choice…The Godfather…and pretty much everything written by Nicholas Sparks.
The most popular book in my year of birth was turned into a Broadway musical rather than a movie…Ragtime by E.L. Doctrow. I’ve never seen or heard this musical, nor have I read this book, but I do know that Ragtime was popular in the 1890’s through the entry into WWI. If you’ve never heard Ragtime music scroll on down…it’s actually a fun genre! 🎶
One of the most classic of the classic movies…and frankly my dear you should give a damn about this one…is Gone With the Wind. Published the year my Nana was born…1936.
My cousins and I used to marathon watch GWTW and Scarlett once a year. 9 glorious hours of Miss Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler. I do declare that we are overdue for this tradition Sis & Sar!
Coincidentally, GWTW is the book I’m currently reading. Without spoilers…I can tell you Rhett and Scarlett are simply awful people. But the way Margaret Mitchell writes them, I cannot help but root for them…and dare I say….like them. GASP! SWOON! Give this book a shot if you like masterful writing. 👍
The year I graduated High School, 1993, gave us The Bridges of Madison County by Robert James Waller. I’ve never seen the movie. I did start to read the book..but just COULD NOT get into it. 😔
Truthfully, I have issues with the premise. The best part of this woman’s life was an affair and looking at covered bridges? Really? If you’ve read it…chime in if you agree or disagree, I’d love to hear thoughts from someone who finished it. 🙃
1999 was a good year, the world was blessed with my very first niece & Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling. I read this one twice. But the first time I read them, I read all 7 books in 8 days while pet sitting. 😀👍💕🐱
Would love to know if you’ve read the most popular book from the year you were born. Please chime in on any from this list you recommend, or think is utter crap. I’m always looking for a book I won’t be able to put down. 😉
No point to ponder today…but instead I offer…as promised…music to enjoy on your journey by Scott Joplin, aka the King of Ragtime…
Wonderful Wednesday, Have You Not Heard?
Everyone listen to Isaiah…he’s saying something important:
“Why do you complain, people?
Why do you say, “My way is hidden from the Lord;
my cause is disregarded by my God”?
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 40:28-31
Point to ponder while you wander…our tongues have the power to create. So rather than complain, how about we start declaring the goodness of God over our situation?
2 AM Thoughts
I am in love with Clark Kent. I have an affinity for regular humans who look like him or have his character traits.
I wish I could go swimming right now but the pool closes at 8 pm and doesn’t open until 10 am tomorrow. Lame. I know.
I wish I were braver.
I’d like to be kind and blunt at the same time, and always tell people what I see when I look at them. I don’t mean “I like your shoes” or “He’s so hot.”
But to really say something they need to hear, “Don’t wear dresses that short. You are worth more than that. You are selling yourself short and cheapening yourself. And people are mocking you.”
“Why are you dating someone who doesn’t value you? Who dismisses you and your opinion?”
“You are beautiful.”
“You are valuable.”
“Don’t you know that you are the joy set before Jesus, that made Him certain that crucifixion was completely worth it?”
I love my people but I can’t imagine heading into crucifixion with joy. 🤤 That astounds me.
I really want ice cream.
Point to ponder while you wander…people are usually aware of their flaws, but not what makes them wonderful.
So next time you tell someone you love them. Tell them why. Or compliment who they are as a person.
A few thoughts on seeds…
I saw this as I was walking to lunch today, and I heard very clearly, “Some seeds are very easily spread.”
Dandelion seeds certainly are. I always saw them as fun yellow polka dots in the sea of green lawn. But Papa saw them as grass killers! 🤤
It’s in the vein of killer weeds that I’ve been pondering how easily seeds of discord & gossip, seeds of doubt & fear spread. And how speedily those seeds can multiply.
But it takes much longer to cultivate seeds of trust, faith, love, and hope.
This is because those seeds need to be planted, cultivated, nurtured, and that requires effort. And time.
Much effort and much time.
Your words are seeds.
Your words are seeds in your life.
Yor words are seeds in other people’s lives.
What kinds of seeds are you sowing? What are you speaking? What are you believing?
Point to ponder while you wander…”A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!” Proverbs 15:23 NKJV
Joy is not Circumstantial
“You have shown me the way of life, and You will fill me with the joy of Your presence.” Acts 2:28 NLT
Point to ponder while you wander….Joy isn’t circumstantial. Joy is what strengthens you to get through the circumstances.
Musical Monday…a bit of a twinge…
Let me start by saying that I enjoy my life. It’s a good life. And I mean that truthfully snd sincerely. God has blessed me and I am grateful.
Job I like going to everyday. 👍
Great apartment. 👍
Amazing Friends. ❤
Best Nieces and Nephews In The World.❤
Health. 👍
I have a lot to be thankful for but there are times when seeing happy couples causes a twinge type ache in my chest. Actual physical pain. Kinda like this song…
Feelings are feelings. You should feel your feelings. They are valid. But your feelings are not reliable truth to live by. They change. Often. Continually. They are fickle.
I feel my feelings. I acknowledge them. But I don’t life by them. Do I want a partner in my life? Yes. Yes, I do. But I will not sit on a shelf and not live the good life I have now because I am single.
Point to ponder while you wander…”I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:11-13
#Grateful
Looking around my apartment this morning all I can see is blessing. Furniture and other items inherited, gifted to me, and items I purchased with money I received from a job I like going to every day.
And I am grateful.
