Watch this video from Jason Gray. The revelation blew my mind. The song’s good too.
Happy Monday!
Musical Monday….Slow Down
Time gets away from me so fast. There are days that it seems like I run and run and never get anywhere. It’s those days that I crave the rest that Psalm 23 talks about. “He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” These verses remind me to slow down and to help me be still. They remind me to follow His lead. They remind me that rest and peace can be found even in the middle of chaos.
Don’t underestimate the power of time spent with God. When Moses met with God, his face actually shone with the glory of the Lord. How cool is that?! Spending time with God shows on us. Not only that but when we meet with Him, He can give us what we need. He can give us wisdom for our situation. He can give us peace & joy. He can restore us. We can rest in Him. So slow down and make some time for Him. He’s waiting for you.
In my quiet time with the Lord a few years ago, I kept hearing the music to Billy Joel’s “Vienna.” I often have random songs in my head, so that’s not anything unusual. A few days ago it was “I Think I Love You” as sung by David Cassidy of the Partridge Family….but I digress. When I looked up the lyrics to “Vienna” I was blown away! Here are the lyrics to “Vienna” with Vienna replaced with God’s Name.
Vienna By Billy Joel
Slow down you crazy child
You’re so ambitious for a juvenile
But then if you’re so smart tell me why
Are you still so afraid?
Where’s the fire, what’s the hurry about?
You better cool it off before you burn it out
You got so much to do and only
So many hours in a day
But you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want
Or you can just get old
You’re gonna kick off before you even get halfway through
When will you realize…Yahweh waits for you
Slow down you’re doing fine
You can’t be everything you want to be
Before your time
Although it’s so romantic on the borderline tonight (tonight)
Too bad but it’s the life you lead
You’re so ahead of yourself
That you forgot what you need
Though you can see when you’re wrong
You know you can’t always see when you’re right(you’re right)
You got your passion you got your pride
But don’t you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on but don’t imagine they’ll all come true
When will you realize
Jesus waits for you
Slow down you crazy child
Take the phone off the hook and disappear for a while
It’s alright you can afford to lose a day or two
When will you realize…
The Holy Spirit waits for you.
And you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want
Or you can just get old
You’re gonna kick off before you even get halfway through
Why don’t you realize…Jesus waits for you
When will you realize…the LORD GOD waits for you

PSS: Proverbs 31 Ministries posted this last week about learning to rest. It’s a good one: http://www.proverbs31.org/devotions/learn-rest-2013-05/
Musical Monday…Worship
There’s a lot of things we could say about David. Things he did right and things he did wrong. But man oh man did he know how to worship. He knew that in the midst of the highest joys, the lowest broken places and everywhere in between that God was there with him. He also knew that God was good all the time and worthy of worship and praise continually.
Worship is more than just singing 3 songs at service on Sunday morning. Check out this video of Kari Jobe on worship. She takes a few minutes to get started, and is a bit random in her delivery, but what she says is powerful and absolutely worth listening to.
Musical Monday…”God Believes In You”
There’s this song by Jill Phillips called “God Believes In You.” I sometimes listen to it on repeat. It reminds me that I matter to the Great Creator. That the God above all other gods values me. It reminds me that I am the daughter of the Most High God, and that I am beloved. Not just loved, BELOVED. He knows why He created me and what I will become. He doesn’t worry about the fact that I screwed up again or that I failed. He knows I will get there and He believes in me.
When no one else agrees or understands….when no one else says anything good….when people spit on you….when people you thought you could trust betray you….when you’ve failed again….when people create lies about you and spread them at work, school, church or on social media….
You need to know who you are. You need to know that you are the beloved of God. You need to know that God considered you such a valuable treasure that He was willing to send Jesus to die for you. You need to know that you were the joy that was set before Jesus so He was willing to be spit on, mocked, beaten and crucified. You are worth so much more than you can possibly imagine. So for all of you having a rough week, month or year…know that God believes in you!
This post is written to everyone who has been feeling down or been feeling attacked lately. But it’s also written to a specific beautiful middle school girl who is being attacked by insecure and jealous girls. I want you to know that you too are beloved. You have a purpose and a calling. You are so very very special. God made you so unique and creative. We all love you. We are behind you. We all believe in you. You matter to all of us. You matter to God. Hang in there my sweet sweet girl.
God Believes in You by Jill Phillips (Buy it from itunes if you don’t have it…you won’t be sorry).
When you start to doubt if you exist
God believes in you
Confounded by the evidence
God believes in you
When your light burns so dim
When your chances seem so slim
And you swear you don’t believe in Him
God believes in you
When you rise up just to fall again
God believes in you
Deserted by your closest friends
God believes in you
When you’re betrayed with a kiss
You turn your cheek to another fist
It does not have to end like this
God believes in you
Oh everything matters if anything matters at all
Everything matters no matter how big
No matter how small
Cause God believes in you
Oh God believes in you
When you’re so ashamed that you could die
God believes in you
And you can’t do right even though you try
God believes in you
Blessed are the ones who grieve
The ones who mourn, the ones who bleed
In sorrow you sow but in joy you reap
God believes in you
Blessed are the ones who grieve
The ones who mourn, the ones who bleed
In sorrow you sow but in joy you reap
God believes in you
Oh God believes in you
