Deep Thought Thursday Promise Keeper

God is love. And love is patient, kind and believes the best. (See 1 Corinthians 13)

And yet the majority of people I know, myself included, doubt that God is for us, and wonder if He has forgotten us and His promises to us.

Doubt creeps in on hard days and suddenly we are believing the lie that we are on our own and need to fight for ourselves. We doubt God’s love. We doubt God’s promises. We doubt God’s goodness.

So if today is one of those days of doubting, remember…

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14

What a wonderful God we have- He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy, and the One who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

With the Lord a day is like a 1000 years and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:8-9

Point to ponder while you wander…

In the days of doubting remember you can invite Jesus to help you in your doubt. Jesus said “Everything is possible for one who believes.” in Mark 9:23, and immediately a doubting father asked for help to believe.

“‘Everything is possible for one who believes.’ Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!'” Mark 9:23-24

Under the Backyard Tree

After weeks and weeks of  hiding out in my room, I finally remembered I have a lovely backyard.

So I am laying on a blanket under a huge maple tree listening to worship music. The sun is shining. A breeze is blowing. So lovely.

Point to ponder while you wander…

Trees by Joyce Kilmer

I think that I shall never see

A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest

Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,

And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear

A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;

Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree.

Simply Receive

While I was reading Psalm 116 this morning, verse 12 jumped out at me.  It asks “How can I repay the Lord for all His goodness to me?”  It’s a good question.  How do you repay someone who has given you something in excess of your ability to pay?  How do you repay such a good God for being who He is?

When I read the next verse it seemed like it was changing topics because it was talking about lifting the cup of salvation.  So I looked up lift, cup, and salvation in the Strong’s.  Here’s what I found:

Lift (H5375) can mean to accept, take, lift…etc…

Cup (H3583) is from a root that means to hold together.  It means container (cup).  Figuratively it refers to a portion or lot.

Salvation (H3444) is Yeshûw’âh.  It means the whole package of deliverance:  deliverance, victory, prosperity, aid, help, health, salvation and welfare.  It is everything that Jesus died to give us.

I added this all together…. Willingly accept the whole container of salvation is how you repay the Lord’s goodness.  I pondered this because it doesn’t seem good enough to me.

So, I asked Him, “How do I repay Your goodness, Lord?”

His answer,  “By accepting it.”

The truth is usually much simpler than we make it out to be.

God’s Not Afraid of the Dark

I loathe fear. So when my friend Danielle posted about God not being afraid of the dark, I asked her permission to share it with you.  It’s encouraging and challenging at the same time.  With that I give you what Dani wrote:

“I’m not afraid of the dark” – God
     God told me this tonight. Seems so simple, but such a profound statement. I felt like a little kid telling God “I’m scared to go there… it’s dark.” And He said, “Don’t worry, I’m not afraid of the dark, I will keep you safe.”
     In your life, He’s not afraid of the dark. He’s not afraid of those areas you’re unwilling to give Him in this moment. He’s not afraid of your mistakes or the bad things that have happened to you, He’s not afraid of your thoughts, He’s not afraid of anything about you, past present or future.
     In our world, He’s not afraid of the dark. He’s not afraid of the Red Light Districts. He’s not afraid of gang neighborhoods. He’s not afraid of failing economies, He’s not afraid of sickness or torment or death. He’s not afraid of anything about this world, past present or future.
     And He wants to bring LIGHT to every dark place so that He can let you know that not only is there nothing in there for HIM to be scared of, but there’s nothing in there for YOU to be scared of either! Let Him flood a light in your life, in your circumstances, in your world. Watch your identity shift. Watch your stance of fear melt away and be replaced with a stance of authority and victory. He has no intention of letting the enemy win… He wrote the end of the Book, and it’s a victory for the Kingdom of LIGHT, NOT the Kingdom of darkness.
