Deep Thought Thursday: What Job is Really About
I’m currently studying the book of Job. Truthfully…it’s not my favorite.
What do you think the book of Job is about?
Most people, at least by the studies, commentaries, and posts I’ve found, believe Job is about why the righteous suffer.
I disagree. Wholeheartedly.
The book of Job is about relationship.
In the beginning, Job 1-3, Job knew of God. In the end, Job 38-42, Job KNEW God. That my friends is the point of Job’s story.
Are you going through hard times right now? Please save yourself the agony of the why that may never be answered (Job never found out why).
Instead focus on the who. Who is Jesus to you? Who do you want to be?
Use these hard times to grow and be a better person that you were before they happened.
I know it sucks. I’ve been there.
I’ve spent months battling a disease, having surgeries, and lying in a hospital bed. #notontodeath
I’ve lost a house, two cars, and had to depend on other people to help me financially. Literally living on less than $200 a month for over a year. Read more about how I felt going through it here. #pridekiller
I lost 3 of the most important people in the world to me in a 6 month time span. #deepdeepgrief
Sometimes seasons in your life just suck. Sometimes we lose. Sometimes we get sick. Sometimes we suffer.
If you read Hebrews 11, the Hall of Faith, many of them went through rough stuff too! BUT…just like with the 3 boys in the fiery furnace, they were not in it alone! And neither are you!
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel…” Isaiah 43:2-3 NIV
Point to ponder while you wander…
Life is not always easy, even if you are a believer!
BUT every season you go through can help you grow wiser, stronger, more compassionate, and closer to God.
Or you can choose to shrink into resentment, bitterness, and blame God.
The choice is yours.
History of the Selfie
My last visit to the National Gallery of Art I entered with an entire busload of Japanese tourists.
As we were moving through the galleries together I realized that this group of people were excellent selfie takers!
Now if you’ve been following along here for any length of time you know that where I start is usually not even close to where I end up. The journey on this particular day was how much effort selfies were before cellular phones.
In the present day…people with zero artistc ability can use selfie sticks & take as many shots as they need until they get a decent enough image to doctor with clever crops & fabulous filters.
But before that..
Cameras…
1. Set up the camera at the right height & angle. 2. Set the timer. 3. Then run like the wind to get in to the frame before the click. 4. Pray for a good shot.
But what about prior to cameras?
Seriously think about that!
To take a selfie…you had to have serious skills to draw, paint, or sculpt an image of yourself.
So I decided to do a new feature called #SelfieSaturday to celebrate how artists wished to present themselves to the world.
To kick it off…here is one of my own selfies. It’s a fave. It was taken several years ago while camping with friends.

Sin and Wisdom of Thomas Jefferson
“I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy as cause for withdrawing from a friend.” -Thomas Jefferson
Random fact…I refer to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial as “Jeff”.

I enjoy visiting Jeff for the view sometimes, and other times I go there to ponder. Something about being there in the early quiet of the morning just inspires me.

Recently I heard that people want to either tear down his memorial or tack up a list of his sins.
Seriously?
We all know the founding fathers were not saints by any means. But his memorial is meant to inspire and to make people think not as a temple of worship!
My response to those people is let he who is without sin cast the first stone!
I doubt those folks suggesting the sin list would not want a list of their sins tacked up on their tombstone for everyone to see? I know I wouldn’t!
Point to ponder while you wander… We should be inspired by the wisdom of historical figures, but also learn from their struggles and failures. But if we only focus on someone’s sin…we miss out on the gift God intended those people to be.
Same is true of the people in our day-to-day lives.
Unity of the Nation
I was just on the roof of my building enjoying the view of DC, and praying for wisdom for our president and our congress.
And this is what came to me…Our military is the best in the world, so chances America being taken down from the outside are not very high. But the chances of us destroying ourselves from the inside out are currently astronomical.
We are not United.
Why would a terrorist waste their time attacking us? When we the people are using our diversity as a wrecking ball against ourselves & destroying our own country.
History should be studied and learned from so it is not repeated.
But yet we haven’t learned a thing! Here we are fighting amongst ourselves over historical statues and skin tones!
Come on people. Take a deep breath.
Hate, fear, anger, wrath, rioting, and finger pointing do not resolve anything. And we all know fear is a liar!
People are hurting, legitimately, and I’m sorry to see and hear that. But knocking down a very old Christopher Columbus statue is not going to heal anyone’s wounds. It just won’t.
Is this what you want to teach the next generation of Americans? Do you want your kids and grandkids to destroy art and history because they are hurt and upset?
I sincerely hope not.
Listening. Open communication. Love. Kindness. Patience. Mutual respect. These are tools that lead to unity.
Unity does not mean we are all the same and have the same opinion. It doesn’t mean blindly following either.
Unity is diverse people coming together for the common good. It’s choosing to listen to those who have a differing opinion. Unity is choosing to be kind & respectful even when you disagree.
The goal of unity should be to build on the successes of the previous generation accomplished, and improve in the areas where they struggled.
Point to ponder while you wander…This is our country. We are the people. We, you and me, are the solution to the problem.
So please join me in praying for peace and unity for our people, and wisdom for our leaders. Please choose to be kind. Be the positive change.
A Psalm, a Masterpiece & the Eclipse
“When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place—what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?” Psalm 8:3-4 NLT
As a nature lover, it’s easy to think that the beauty and majesty God created and think the Earth or the skies is the pinnacle of His creation. But actually, you are.
He created the Earth for you to tend, keep, and enjoy. You are His Masterpiece!
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 NLT
Point to ponder while you wander…God considers you to be His masterpiece over this…

Creativity Connection
I spent my early morning hours coloring a garden-type scene. I enjoy coloring plants! So many shades of green! So many textures!
I wonder how long God pondered the colors, textures, and characteristics of each plant before He spoke them into being?
I wonder how wide He smiled as He considered the colors of the Monarch butterfly and the flashing light of fire flies? As I personally believe He enjoyed every second of creation as I enjoy painting and coloring.
Do you enjoy coloring or being creative?
I personally believe the reason why so many people enjoy coloring (or woodworking, painting, planting gardens, knitting and the like…) is because they’re actually connecting to the One who created them.
We are creative beings! We create with our voices. We create with our minds. We create with our hands.
“So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27 NLT

I feel closest to Him when I am writing, taking photos, coloring, painting, or otherwise creating 🖌📸✏, when I wander around appreciating His artwork 🌌🏞🏜, or looking at art others created 📷🖼🎨.
Art and nature is how God speaks to me most often, and how I relate to Him. I have friends who relate to God in music, and others who connect by just acknowledging His Presence & sitting quiet and still.
How do you connect to God?
Little Irritations? Or Reasons to Rejoice?
Picture it. Saturday. A lovely rainy Saturday. Perfect excuse to stay in my apartment and read (or binge watch a show). But there was a break in the weather so I hopped on the bus and went to the grocery store. So adult-like and responsible of me, don’t you think?
I get my groceries, and get in line. I put all the cold stuff together so it would be easier for the cashier to pack. Then I hand the cashier my reusable bags and my cooler bag for the cold and frozen items. She threw most everything in the freezer bag except the cold stuff. I could have been annoyed. But I just shook my head, told her to have a good day, exited the store, and repacked my bags.
Then I walk the block to the bus stop. The sky goes dark, and as I am talking to the nice man next to me an accident happens right in front of us. No one was hurt thankfully, but the one driver is irate! So I start to call the police to let them know there’s an accident, since the people involved are just screaming at each other, and blocking traffic.
As I am dialing…the wind kicks up and the sky opens, drenching me and my groceries instantly. I’m now soaked to the skin talking to a police dispatcher who wants me to give her licence plates that I cannot really see from my vantage point, but I do my best to answer her questions, and get off the phone.
Then I just started laughing at the ridiculousness of my day right at that moment. I ended up getting the two other soaked people at the bus stop to laugh too. What else are you gonna do? Be mad at the rain? That’s pretty much a waste of time.
It’s gonna rain, friends. Fact of life.
About 5 minutes later the bus arrives. So I board the bus, and it dawns on me that I forgot to buy a lime. Crap! I’m making cilantro lime rice and a mexican type chicken in the crock pot. I need a lime.
Lesson: Look at your list BEFORE leaving the store. Reason to be thankful: I can feel the rain. I am physically able to carry my groceries. My eggs didn’t break. I got $10 in free groceries.
So I go home. Dry off. Change. Put the groceries away. And start preparing to make the chicken and rice. Promptly spill diced tomatoes on the rug I just washed last week. Awesome. Throw that back in the washer.
Then I walk to the closest grocery store on the next rain break, to buy a lime. Get on the bus to go home because the sky looked a tad menacing yet again. But because of a 5K on my street, down from my apartment, the bus has been diverted. So I walk nearly as far as I would have from the grocery store. But it didn’t rain on me! So I’ll take it as a win.
When I cut the lime in half, I found another reason to be thankful! A very juicy lime!! I got so much juice from this one little lime that I had enough for both the rice and the chicken. 😀
So I make the rice. And promptly spill some on the floor.
Lesson: Sweeping fresh rice is not easy. Had to wash the floor. Reasons to be thankful: I only lost a handful of rice in the spill. My floor is now clean, as is my rug. I can see the rice to be able to clean it up. I have an apartment with a nice kitchen, and pots, pans, and utensils to cook with. I have a washer in my apartment to wash the rug. I am physically able to walk home, and to clean my floor. I have food to cook. It started pouring again shortly after I entered my apartment, so I am also grateful I made it home dry!

Wonderful Wednesday…Water
One of my favorite things to do is lay on the water. In order to float like that..you need to relax and let the water hold you up. I do this in the ocean, lakes and in pools. Last week I freaked the life guard out because I was so still laying there. It’s how I relax…sorry life guard!
When I do this I think about Holy Spirit and I am thankful.
Many times in the Word water represents the Holy Spirit. Seem confusing to you? Well how about this….water fills all open vessels, nourishes dry places, washes what needs cleaning, and is needed to mold clay.
Plants need three things to grow and flourish; sunlight, to be planted in good nutient rich soil, and water. Children of God need Jesus, need to be planted in a good Bible based church and need the Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit fills us, equips us, comforts us, teaches us, leads us and helps us grow. Holy Spirit helps us pray when we don’t know what or how to pray.
Holy Spirit empowered Jesus to do all He did on earth. They partnered together.
He also inspired those writing the books we now know as the Bible.
Don’t discount Him because you don’t understand Him. Seek Him out. You won’t be sorry…you’ll be powerful and you’ll be changed for the better.
Point to ponder while you wander…”And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Romans 8:26-28
Waxing Poetic
Waxing poetic? What does that even mean?
I think of it as glossing over the negative and speaking of a topic as if it were 100% beautiful. Kinda like how high school glory days get better and better as you age. Kinda like someone telling tall tales or b.s.ing a great story that’s short on facts and high in entertainment value.
The definition I found was this…to speak in an increasingly enthusiastic and poetic manner. It can imply enthusiasm or refer to flowery writing or speech.
Why am I talking about waxing poetic today? No idea…just randomly drifted through my brain and I like the way it sounds. 🌞 ha ha
On another random note..I dreamt about my junior high school friends last night. It was a very enjoyable dream until it was invaded by a high school boyfriend. It was strange because I knew he didn’t belong there. He really didn’t. He went to a rival school.
Anyway he kept smiling at me. It was weird.
So when I woke up I prayed for the people in the dream. Including the ex-boyfriend.
